RIDGMONT, BEDS.
A small
coprolite pit was marked on the first geological map of the area, on the
eastern side of the road almost at the top of the hill near the pub but no
other documentation related to it has come to light. The proximity of the
Woburn Experimental Station where John Bennet Lawes, the man who patented the
technique of converting coprolites into superphosphate may have been related as
it was possible the fertilised was made locally for testing on the sandy soils
of the Duke of Bedford‘s Estate. (6” Beds.21 ÓW; Oakley,•British Phosphates,” Wartime Pamphlets,
