This permitted
footpath allows you access to Gamlingay Wood, a nature reserve managed by the
Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust. As it is mostly used by car drivers visiting the
woods, it is possible to park the cars close to the entrance to the wood.
Access from
Gamlingay is to turn east off the
Inside you can see the remains of wood banks from the
manorial divisions of the 12th century and an earlier circular enclosure of
unknown origin. Aerial photographs have revealed a medieval field system in the
field to the south with its ridges and furrows (SMR 11393).
